INTEGRATED BUSINESS PLANNING (IBP)

 

1.     What is “Integrated Business Planning” (IBP)?

For business functions, this method designs plans with the aim to grow and decrease costs.

It’s a schedule of all the tasks per month, coordinating the business functions in order to work effective and efficiently building a one consensus plan, for them to complete multiple objectives.

2.     What is “Sales and Operations Planning” (S&OP)?

It’s a process that plans monthly the operations of the supply chain and to improve production and sales

3.     What are the similarities between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

The S&OP has a lot in common with the IBP, they both organize, analyze tasks to raise the performance of all the departments and the company overall.

4.     What are the differences between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

The time is the difference, IBP focuses on long-term planning while S&OP on the medium-term

Also, the S&OP is most commonly used to balance demand and supply, because it cannot be used for a general view.

5.     How does the IBP process work? Describe in detail.

Analyzing the context of the company to suggest strategic initiatives, direction, set activities to the departments, be aware of the businesses targets in order to plan, forecast the desired performance.

6.     What are the challenges of IBP?

ü  The level of customers and suppliers will grow

ü  The things to consider are more (finance, products, marketing)

ü  The main goal is to raise the company and reduce costs

7.     Which are the most common difficulties/problems when implementing IBP? Mention them and provide examples.

The level of technology used in the company doesn’t fulfill the expectations for example, maybe one of the solutions proposed by the IBP plan requires the newest technology which the company doesn’t have.

The top managers are not aware of their employees skills and performance (low) for example, the activities are designated, and expected to be completed but it didn’t considered that the employees need to be trained for them to accomplish the tasks.

 

 

 

8.     What are the advantages and disadvantages of IBP?

Advantages:

-        all the activities are coordinated, aligned for the various departments for them to organize time and resources

-        it allows the departments to visualize the full picture of tasks to make them aware of their position in order to achieve the main goal

 

Disadvantages:  

-        even when all the data is available, its challenging to operate

-        the company won´t be fully prepared for new challenges on the outside (technology for ex.)

9.     What is the importance of IBP nowadays?

Nowdays, its fundamental for the companies to always try to make the best decisions and actions. For this to be done, they require to gather data, make reports successfully, and this is all achieved with the help of the IBP.
